So fast information first – Mugs has a brand new identify! SNORT had a number of too many pugs named Mugsy (or some variation of that identify) so Mugs needed to have a reputation change. I’ve gone with Fred – now I’ve a Lucy and a Fred from I Love Lucy! He’s deaf – he has no concept what anybody calls him anyway, so the identify change isn’t a brilliant massive deal.

Fred? Mugs? Makes zero distinction to him.

Now, for some updates! We’re nearly 48 hours into life with Fred. To date so good (knock on wooden).

Completely one hundred pc deaf, no questions. Can’t hear a factor.

He’s beginning to escape the everyday pug hops – hops once I come house, hops when it’s mealtime, hops when it’s deal with time. Cute. He’s really ecstatic once I come house – best feeling ever.

Totally housetrained (minus one accident tonight – I waited too lengthy, completely my fault); no want for a stomach band, though I saved one on him at this time whereas I used to be at work since he wasn’t alone for lengthy stretches yesterday – at this time he went 4-5 hours whereas I’m at work (I come house for lunch), so I wished to make sure there have been no accidents whereas I used to be at work (spoiler alert – there weren’t!).

He’s somewhat escape artist! Give him a millimeter of area between a door opening and his shoulders and he’s gone! After all, he’s on a leash however I do must take each canine out directly; if I attempt to depart him inside whereas I take Lucy out, he’ll discover a technique to wiggle out the patio door. Leaving by the entrance door is attention-grabbing, to say the least!

Like most pugs, he’s a barker. Sadly, verbal corrections don’t do something. I picked up a sprig bottle after work at this time; hopefully a fast spritz within the face when he (unnecessarily) barks will work. I hesitate to do treat-based coaching – he doesn’t have to put weight on!

Nighttime goes nicely; he sleeps in my bed room and takes a bit to quiet down into his pillows (nicely, my pillows that he’s commandeered) and sooner or later final night time he moved from his pillows to his personal mattress (additionally in my bed room), however thus far so good.

And Lucy? Who is aware of. I don’t assume she’s ecstatic however thus far, their personalities match nicely. Lucy isn’t an enormous cuddler with me and definitely doesn’t care the place I’m within the house. Fred should know the place I’m always and follows me in every single place. Additionally, toys haven’t been an enormous subject but – he has a number of mushy chew toys he likes however shockingly Lucy hasn’t been overly thinking about them and he isn’t actually obsessive about them, both – no territorial habits from him, that’s for certain. They largely ignore one another – high quality by me! And Lucy even bought down on the ground with me final night time to play fetch – usually she’s too scared (no, actually) of the opposite canine to play on the bottom. So, an enormous step for her this early within the sport!

Lastly, I took each canine to the vet tonight. Lucy wanted an allergy shot and I introduced Fred alongside for a number of causes – I’m unsure how he does house alone with out me or one other canine; I didn’t need him barking for an hour. Plus, I wished to see how he did in an setting exterior the house. He did spectacularly! No barking, no marking. He simply sniffed the opposite canine when he felt prefer it and was largely content material to simply roam and go searching! I feel this man goes to do nice in nearly any situation!
