Marlee, a beautiful brindle Boxer/Mastiff mix, and her Mom, Lizbeth, have been best friends since sweet Marlee was a puppy. So naturally, they have taken many adventures together. But when they were in the midst of their most recent escapade, the unthinkable happened. Marlee’s mom skidded on some black ice, and their car hit a snowbank. Marlee panicked and made a mad dash out the back window.

Immediately after they skidded to a stop, Marlee’s mom hopped out of the car and chased after her panicked pooch. But she was unable to keep up, and Marlee became lost in the snow.

Big Bear, California, just so happened to be experiencing a record-breaking amount of snowfall at the time. Within two days, the area had been hammered with over four feet of snow! Marlee had never seen snow before, and now she was suddenly stranded in a historic blizzard.

Despite hanging hundreds of flyers and posting them all over community Facebook pages, they were unable to find their precious pup. After weeks of searching, hoping, and praying, Marlee’s heartbroken family started to give up hope that they would ever see her again. After all, she was outside fending for herself while enduring the frigid temperatures and deep snow.

But then, someone spotted her and posted a picture of her looking super skinny to a Facebook page. Finally, there was a sign that instilled some hope. After that, a Ring camera captured her visiting the house of Jenny Sheldon every night around 8:30 pm. So they started to leave out food for her. But again, she was too quick to catch.

So Jenny’s son James strapped on some snow-shoes and followed Marlee’s paw prints out into the snow. Finally, the friendly pooch was able to be enticed by some chicken long enough for James to grab her and get her into their warm house.

The family showered Marlee with love, fed her lots of yummy food, and gave her a place to comfortably wait out the rest of the storm. Once the blizzard had passed, and they were able to safely trek down the mountain, Marlee and Lizbeth were finally reunited.

As you can expect, it was a joyous occasion. It was against all odds that their sweet girl had survived. And thanks to a little luck, and some help from fellow dog-lovers, Marlee was finally home safe and sound.
